Our culture is overwhelmingly visual. Images are omni-present and often designed, refined and poured over to elicit a specific response: buy this product. The contemporary viewer is trained to decipher images by this bombardment of media. And whether the viewer is encountering the images by choice—tuning in to his or her favorite television program—or is exposed by force—encountering billboards and signage on his or her way to work—the images are internalized, deciphered and
a meaning is created.
